Opinie o Programie

Aleksander Antczak, Sto

Let me share some of my thoughts with you. Thoughts which reflect the time spent together at the MBA programme and display the spirit prevailing throughout it.

1. Graduation:
I cannot refrain from commenting on the graduation attended by our professors and prepared by Karolina, Jarek and the rest of you – You are the greatest people I have ever worked/studied/ect. with. I am sure I will be able to say the same next month and next year. This is really because of you – reading this now, friends. It is an honor for me that I had the chance to try to equal you. Quality sciences call such situations „overquality”:-), that means „more than customer expected „, howgh.
2. Prof. Smits’ idea:
With reference to the idea put forward by Prof. Smits (a website for open communication for MBA mates), I would like to recommend to all of you a great audio-book by dr Covey „7 habits of highly effective people”. I’ve been listening to it for a few months in my car while travelling. I’ve heard a lot about inspiring literature, however, what this audio-book contains is the most mind-refreshing, inspiring and motivating thing I have ever come across. It says a lot about leadership, best ways to use skills we all have, developing and showing most important skills, the significance of private life etc. For those of you who travel a lot, this is the best time-filler. Should be part of the MBA education, maybe. (Covey is an MBA graduate) (available on E-bay – English version only)
3. Prof. Butler’s letter:
Following Rafa? Ziemkiewicz, Polish journalist who said:
„…living in Poland is like swimming in fruit jelly (kisiel:-) – it is possible, but every move requires more and more effort”
– my impression is that we were given a chance to learn how to glide on it. Such an invitation coming from Deborah cannot be declined- I see it as a chance (for dancing for example – why not?:-)) for „continuing mind-shaping/opening process” which led us to this MBA programme , through this MBA programme and should still be leading us.
4. After hours:
Before the meeting with Deborah – the Andrews team will organize the „FirstMeeting” (other teams will follow suit I hope), now I will reveal no details but I can promise to see to it.
Best regards to all of you who devoted a few minutes to reading the above text.

I graduated from the MBA course organized by the Poznań University of Economics in cooperation with Georgia State University in Atlanta in 1998.

I decided to take up these studies in order to gain better theoretical knowledge of the problems related to corporate management under market economy. I treated the MBA course as a supplement and confrontation with my previously obtained work experience. I think that both of these aims were fully accomplished and the studies fulfilled my expectations. Thanks to the lectures conducted by professors from the Poznan University of Economics and lecturers from Georgia State University I was able to see in a different light fundamental problems from the field of management and got a wider insight into how enterprises function and compete on the market. Apart from the knowledge acquired, the MBA studies had many other positive aspects for me out of which the most important were contacts with other students (managers like myself), an opportunity to exchange experiences and, after graduation, to cooperate with them more effectively. I would recommend the MBA studies to everyone interested in the principles of the market economy and competition.

For me a great advantage of the MBA Atlanta program is that everything here is real, not pretended.

The market is full of weekend courses in management and marketing where one has to attend a few uninteresting lectures, write a trivial essay at the end of the semester, pay the fee and basically one has a diploma in his/her pocket. MBA Atlanta stands in exact opposition to such courses. Here you REALLY have to attend classes, REALLY become involved in the projects; some exams are REALLY difficult; it is REALLY worthwhile to devote half of the weekend for the lecturers and the summer workshops are a REALLY unforgettable experience. If you want to study management really and not only pretend to be studying, the MBA Atlanta is a proper place for you.

Piotr Ciborowski, Prezes Zarządu, HEAVY-NET Sp. z o.o.

MBA studies teach a perfect management of time which should be divided between learning, working and private life.

The time you devote to the classes is not wasted. The lecturers show how to use the knowledge acquired in practice. Thanks to this knowledge one gets a wider look on how to solve problems at work. The MBA studies make it possible to establish many interesting contacts which facilitate the functioning on the market. Poznan-Atlanta MBA studies are an investment in yourself resulting in extended knowledge, contacts with people and possibly a lucrative job.

Roma Dudzińska, Managing Director, DURWEN Polska OSPRZĘT

I started MBA Program at the beginning of my current business career. Having academic knowledge I was very keen to learn more in such fields as marketing and management to improve my organization.

Project by project, case by case I was incredibly pleasantly surprised what a huge input I can give to my business organization with skills learned at MBA. From the other hand my business know-how was interesting and gave inspiration to my MBA friends, during our team work.
Last four years I worked in Australia in a global corporation. It was a challenge for me to confront my qualifications in marketing and management with my Australian colleagues, in this multinational, muticultural society. And here I bow my head before all the lecturers, both Polish and American, for such a fresh, independent and practical knowledge they tought us. With colleagues in my Australian company, who also did MBA Programs but in Australia, we felt a common way of communication, way of trouble shouting, so creative and open for innovation, which in the end of the day was very profitable for our corporation.
Product which I was dealing with in Australia was the same as in Poland. Technican vocabulary was a piece of cake for me. What was new was the Australian, local way of achieving marketing success. At MBA I learned how to listen to the market calls, how to become a good team member, how to achieve the organization goals by acting together regardless if this is a small company or a global organization. So all these I kept in me and turned into acting towards success.
Acting in a multinational organization, dealing with customers in foreign language, in foreign country went really smoothly with the MBA experience. I do not regret any 5 minutes spent at the program. I am also considering doing another program in couple years to keep a healthy balance between practice and academic world. Things never stay the same, water flows and we should learn our whole life.
MBA Program in Poznań conducted in cooperation with Georgia State University tells you what the international business is all about, and at the same time gives you a local approach to the issue, which I find a perfect mixture.

For over 10 years I have been working in the education business, therefore I am very much aware of what we really learn, we learn ourselves, to some extend despite and against schools.

This is why I did not intend to pursue organized mass education in any shape or form. What attracted me to the programme was the emphasis on practice on both sides: faculty and students. While studying I was very happy to notice that the programme is a perfect marriage between outstanding, intellectually honest, eager-to-learn, keen-on-teaching faculty and open-minded students who are pleased to check in reality what they acquired in the MBA classrooms and provide feedback to enrich the teachers’ competence. For me personally it was of utmost importance to stand on the other side, i.e. remind myself what it is like to be a student as well as improve my teaching skills. I lack words to express how much I am impressed by Professor Tadeusz Kowalski – a motivating leader and awesome professional committed to excellence. I seize the opportunity to say thank you for enabling me to summarize 10 years of my business in my MBA thesis. The ideas on negotiations and managing myself and many more I got at the course of Professor Henryk Mruk have radically changed my life. And Professor Jacek Mizerka made finance accessible and funny even for a declared humanist. The list of benefits is actually endless. I take the liberty of quoting three more of them. Firstly, thanks to the MBA programme I met my present business partner. Secondly, it was a giant leap for my English. Last but not least, some student and/or their employees, friends and acquaintances are still my customers.

Many candidates are wondering is it worth?

You probably ask yourself: how can it help me?
Should I spend the next two years working hard on the weekends?
Would it add value to my career? etc.
Each of us had the same doubts. I remember that during the Orientation Session, each participant was given reasons why he/she decided to start an MBA from the UE Poznan. I finished studying last weekend, and frankly I admit that thanks to the program I was able to achieve all the goals. If you want to expand your managerial skills, improve cross functional business knowledge and meet great people MBA at Poznan University of Economics is the right place for you and remember, „Satisfaction does not come with achievement, but with effort. Full effort is full victory” (M. Gandhi) I wish you hard work and good luck! Somewhere after two years you will see that it was great challenge and adventure.
I highly recommend international MBA program at the Poznan University of Economics in cooperation with the J. Mack Robinson School of Business at Georgia State University.

A decision to start the MBA studies was not easy.

Due to new tasks at work the amount of my free time was very limited. Moreover, as regards private life it was not the best time to take up studies. Two months before my daughter was born and I realized that my family would need me more. As at that time I was living in Wrocław, commuting and accommodation were an additional problem. At the same time I knew that I had to improve my qualifications and acquire additional knowledge to be used at work and not only. Last but not least, I was influenced by my superior who is also a graduate from MBA Poznan-Atlanta program. It was he who recommended the Poznań University of Economics to me, having a very high opinion of this institution. Recalling my first memories connected with the time when the Program started, I remember a great atmosphere and friendly attitude of the lecturers. The people I met came from different circles, they had various experience and a wide range of knowledge. What linked them was their willingness to widen their horizons, exchange experiences and also spend a nice time together. At the beginning only a few of us realized what the future would bring. Ahead of us were two years of intensive work, training sessions two or three times a month, “lost” weekends and “hard” Mondays at work. Despite that I think that many of us were really enthusiastic about coming to Poznań. Majority of the lecturers were able to create a favourable working atmosphere. They were not only outstanding scientists but also people of extensive professional experience. During their classes they were able to combine theory and practice, which was particularly important for me. They were eager to answer our questions which frequently started vivid discussions and exchange of opinions between the students. I also have very pleasant memories from Summer Workshops in Lubniewice. Unfortunately it was not the time of relaxation although the environment was ideal for recreation. The American lecturers allowed us to look at certain problems from a different perspective. A computer “Strategic Game” made it possible for us to get familiar with the mechanisms of the market economy. We were offered an opportunity to make short and long-term economic decisions and to observe their effects. Two years passed more quickly than we had expected A lot has changed in our lives. The last few months were particularly busy – deadlines to be met, the final paper to be written, etc. In my case a new challenge appeared. I was offered a new post which was connected with moving to Switzerland together with my family. Despite this I decided to continue my studies and complete them on time. I was quite successful in doing so! Today I can say that thanks to MBA Poznan- Atlanta studies I gained the knowledge which I can successfully use both in my professional and private life. I met interesting people who shared with me their experience, their views of reality and their attitude to life. I was able to understand certain mechanisms functioning in economics, market or international economy. Now I have a better understanding of the world which surrounds me.

Leszek Jarosz, Ph.D., President, Sales Company US and Canada, DeLaval Inc.

Having working in a multinational company for a few years, I realized that my further development was impossible without gaining a profound knowledge of managerial skills.

My education in zootechnics and a PhD.in agricultural sciences were very useful to understand customers’ needs and specificity of the sector in which my enterprise operates. However, as my career progressed and I was given more and more responsible jobs to tackle, it became clear for me that extending my knowledge on a temporary basis (even on highly regarded courses abroad) would not make me a high quality manager of a modern multinational corporation. Therefore I decided to participate in a Master of Business Administration program. Out of many MBA offers I selected the program at the University of Economics in Poznan because I wanted to obtain a diploma issued by a well-known university. This year I have been appointed managing director and chairman of the board. At present I cannot imagine managing the company without the knowledge provided by MBA. Above all, the program of studies covered all the areas necessary to understand operating of an enterprise in its micro and macro environment. Moreover, I was able to gain a profound insight into the functioning of a firm both in its legal , economic and sociological aspects. Being an academic teacher with professional experience of over 10 years, I truly appreciate the selection of the teaching staff on MBA Poznan – Atlanta courses. Whether lecturers were MAs or professors, of Polish, American or English nationality, they were always outstanding individuals and great lecturers – people combining their theoretical knowledge with business practice. It is difficult to imagine a more effective way of gaining knowledge than listening to lectures, participating in discussions with such people or writing essays under their supervision. One more thing, together with Prof. Kowalski, Ms Jola and all participants of the course we created an unforgettable atmosphere for which it was worthwhile to come frequently to Poznan, the city whose charm I was able to discover thanks to my studies.

The MBA program organized by the Poznan University of Economics in cooperation with Georgia State University in Atlanta fulfilled my expectations ensuring a pleasant working atmosphere, a wide carefully selected range of knowledge and an opportunity to meet many interesting people, not only the course participants but also the guests invited.

The classes conducted by outstanding specialists in the field of management and business, both from Poland and from the USA, guaranteed economic education of the highest level. The MBA program Poznań–Atlanta offered a complex knowledge of the phenomena occurring in the business environment and widely supplemented the education I obtained during my studies. However, in my opinion the greatest advantage of the program was all the strategic games and case studies we discussed – it is incredible how much you can learn, combining education with fun. Thanks to the case studies we learned how to communicate in a team, how to make decisions, negotiate or how to be assertive. These two years were very important for me. They prepared me for difficult assignments and great responsibility, which is very useful in my daily work. Having in mind professionalism and involvement of the Program’s Supervisor, one can expect that successive editions will be even better and will meet the growing requirements of the market.

-praktyczne doświadczenie i zrozumienie wzajemnych relacji ekonomiczno-politycznych
– polityka gospodarcza, systemy podatkowe, metody ilościowe;
-niezbędna wiedza w zakresie otoczenia biznesowego, a zwłaszcza prawa, marketingu, zarządzania informacją;

Aleksander Mackiewicz, Dyrektor Generalny, DANTOM Sp. z o.o.

Jerzy, Malgosia & Philip Michniewicz, I edition graduates, B. Braun Medical

First of all, please notice, and we would like to confirm, that the first baby of the MBA Program is Philip.

He was a student from his very first days of his life. He listened to all of the courses and worked very hard with us at home. He should also graduate from Georgia State as well as from Poznan School of Economics.
We are both employed by the same corporation, B. Braun Medical. Malgosia runs the customer service department. She is currently on baby-sitting vacation. I have the pleasure of running the marketing and sales department of our surgical instruments division.
We think that after receiving our MBA degrees, we will remain in our positions with the company. The course has given us another approach to the subject and what is going on in different departments. We both lack business backgrounds. Malgosia is a lawyer, I am a medical doctor. We both have been interested in self-educating ourselves in business. Hearing and studying the sciences directly connected with business has increased our self-confidence and judgment about everything that we do in our common day and professional life.
Definitely, we found the courses interesting in sciences not directly connected in our cases with marketing. I found a lot of things, especially in corporate finance, decision analysis, strategic management, macro and microeconomics very interesting. I think that the decision taken two years ago regarding participation in this course was the best decision we have made during the last two years. Unfortunately, from a purely financial point of view, it was not cheap. All the fees related to the course, we have paid by ourselves without any assistance from our company. We are glad we have made it.
What is our future?
Definitely, it is easier to find a job with the MBA certificate than without it. Especially in business, having another university background.
Our future is rather bright. In today’s job market, we can easily get a well-paid position practically within a few days.
It is a growing demand for educated people in Poland and in Europe. Having common day contacts with our partners in the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom, we feel really confident exchanging our business experiences as well as information.
Well, finally, you have all done a great job establishing this MBA program in Poland. As every business, it has to grow and develop. It will take a few years. Afterwards, we think it will gain the top level in international standards. During the two years of this course, we felt a little like guinea pigs, but it was a risk we have taken and finally we are satisfied. The very first time is always difficult isn’t it?

Bogusław Mróz, Prof. zw. dr hab., Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza

Zakres moich obowiązków obejmuje kadry i rozwój uczelni.
Dlaczego MBA Poznan-Atlanta Bardzo ciekawy i zrównoważony w sensie relacji godzin wykładowych do case studies, warsztatów i pracy grupowej program.

Joanna Młynarczyk, Knowledge Manager, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals SA

I regard Poznan-Atlanta MBA studies as one of the most important stages in my professional career.

The classes were conducted by the lecturers with a profound knowledge and frequently, which is particularly significant, a wide professional experience. Many training sessions were conducted by American lecturers which allowed us to confront practices used in Poland with those popular in the USA. I think that understanding the processes characteristic of other business cultures is very important for anyone currently involved in business and it was extremely valuable for me as a person working for a culturally diversified global corporation – GlaxoSmithKline. Poznan-Atlanta MBA program is very intensive and diversified as regards the subjects taught: great emphasis was placed on the field of finance, however “soft” aspects of management such as “Organizational Behaviour”, “Human Resources Management” or “Project Management” were not neglected. For me a great advantage of the program was a possibility to combine professional work with the topics of the training sessions. I was able to use the knowledge and skills acquired in my everyday work, introducing improvements and new solutions, which resulted in measurable profits for my company. I would recommend Poznan-Atlanta MBA program not only to economists but also to other university graduates who want to obtain knowledge and practical skills from the field of economics and management. For me as a person with education in humanities this program was a perfect supplement for the hitherto acquired knowledge and an excellent source of information about instruments and methods applied in business today, not only in Poland but all over the world. Apart from educational values the MBA program made it possible for me to establish new contacts and exchange experiences with people working for different firms. Many of these “business’ contacts transformed into real friendship, which is an extra asset of this type of programs.

Wojciech Parchem, opera singer, international specialist, The Warsaw Chamber Opera

Starting the MBA studies might seem a controversial stage on the path of career development of an opera singer… However, looking back as a graduate from the MBA course, I can say that it was one of the best decisions in my life.

It is not easy to describe in a few sentences my reflections after two-year intensive studies. However, I will try to point out the most important – in my opinion – aspects of learning under MBA Poznan-Atlanta program. This program offers insights into the complexity of decision making processes in an enterprise, presents many factors influencing business success under market economy and provides a wide knowledge on the variety of managerial tools. The lecturers attach great importance to teaching the so-called soft managerial skills which are not always easy to define. One of the great advantages of the MBA course is that the classes are conducted in two languages. Thanks to this graduates of the program are prepared to work not only in the Polish but also in a multinational business environment. The course supervisor and major part of the lecturers were very sensitive to the remarks and opinions of the students and their educational requirements, trying to change and improve the program according to the students’ needs. Worth mentioning is a wide offer of postgraduate seminars and freedom to choose one’s topic as it gives a possibility to develop concrete, individual interests. Thanks to this fact I was able to write a paper on marketing management in cultural institutions, combining at the same time the economic knowledge I acquired with my artistic experience. Solving tasks in groups and joint preparation of the projects teaches cooperation, tolerance, constructive problem-solving and develops one’s sensitivity to the views and emotions of other people. It is good that people of different education and professional experience can meet as it creates a favourable team spirit. Our contacts were not only limited to classes but were maintained during many social events. Some of the acquaintances we made were transformed into real friendship. All the above-mentioned elements are not only a significant step on the path of one’s education and professional development but they are also an important stage in one’s life from a personal point of view.

Z wykształcenia jestem inżynierem, absolwentem Wydziału Mechanicznego Politechniki Łódzkiej o specjalności Maszyny i Urządzenia Przemysłu Papierniczego i Poligraficznego.

Education has always play an important role in my life.

As a graduate of Poznan University of Technology, having almost 10 years of business experience and still new challenges ahead I decided to look for something that could strengthen my managerial skills and develop knowledge areas related to economics, HR, finance and management practices in general. Out of many MBA offers as present on the market I selected the one which is delivered by Poznan Univesity of Economics in the joined venture with Georgia State University in Atlanta, the US. This was due to tradition, fame, quality and the content of the course. And this was definitely a good choice.
Programme content is delivered via subject specific modules. The modules are delivered by a series of sessions based around formal input, workshop activities, case discussions and practical exercises. Examples include using video, film, presentations, group discussions and individual and group presentations. Moreover, you can expect a balance of lecture-based input and workshop or seminar activities that help you to apply theory to your „real life” situations, critically analyzing and making recommendations for appropriate ways forward for you and/or your organization.
Practically all sessions include an opportunity to participate in the process of knowledge generation, interaction, communication and contextual application. Critical reflection on gained knowledge, experience and practice makes the learning and teaching process even more effective. Each module is supported by a teaching and learning plan, which outlines the process, frameworks for learning and requirements set for students by lecturers. All very well structured and prepared.
No less important for me personally was to meet many interesting people, share some experience with them and learn about different approaches and problems they face up in their day-to-day businesses. We socialized together, made fun and most importantly we made good colleagues. For sure, this relationship will last for years.
When you decide to join the MBA course you need to be prepared to study hard, you need delegate to this substantial portion of your free time and you need to re-organize your life completely.
However, despite all the hard work I am fully confident the effort was worthwhile. I am sure MBA diploma combined with some business experience is a very strong point in everybody’s career.
Thumbs up for Poznań-Atlanta MBA.

Liliana Szczuka-Dorna, Ph.D., Director of Department of Foreign Languages, The Poznan University of Technology

Postgraduate studies are a successive step on the development of one’s professional career.

They frequently brush up the knowledge from the times when we were students but mostly they introduce new, unknown theories and problems. The people I met on the MBA course decided to acquire knowledge from the field of economics and management, apart from their previously obtained education. For many of us taking up these studies was a challenge and a test for ourselves. At the beginning it seemed that training sessions held every second week from Friday to Sunday were not too much of a burden. This, however, was an illusion. After the first few weeks when we had to complete the projects, take the tests and exams and read so many items from the reading list, suddenly we found ourselves short of time. Looking back, I can certainly admit that it was a profitable investment. I learned a lot about economics and management. I can use the theory and practical skills offered by subjects like Organizational Behaviour, Marketing and Negotiations in my job as a Director of Foreign Languages Department at the Poznan Technical University. The institution I have been working for for a few years uses the principles of economic financing. Therefore, my knowledge from the field of economics, accountancy and finance proves to be extremely useful. The MBA classes were conducted in Polish and in English. The Polish and foreign lecturers were both outstanding scientific authorities and good practitioners and well-known managers. Training sessions were very differentiated from classes and lectures to summer workshops held outside Pozna?. As the MBA program was created in cooperation with Georgia State University in Atlanta, the most popular method of completing the projects was team work. This type of work teaches many skills, such as delegating tasks, assertiveness and reaching a compromise. For many of us joint preparation of the projects was an opportunity to arrange meetings where economics was not the only subject to discuss …….. Postgraduate MBA studies mean the knowledge of many, so far unknown, fields. They also help to gain an insight into modern world trends and classify them, which is indispensable for any manager. These studies raise one’s self-confidence and give satisfaction from the result achieved. At the same time, above all, they give an opportunity to make friends with fantastic people from all over Poland and MBA graduates with whom it is nice to meet and discuss not only economics.

Anna Szulc, Executive Manager Poland & Web coordinator for new European markets, NOVASOL

I decided to start a MBA program after recognizing in my daily work that I need a broader look and a better understanding of mechanisms ruling in economy – both generally and in my company’s direct environment.

My choice of MBA Poznan-Atlanta was influenced foremost by this program’s high rating – I wanted to be sure that I gain the proper knowledge in a right place and from right people. Today, after graduating, I can confirm that MBA Poznan-Atlanta at the University of Economics in Poznan totally fulfilled my expectations. I was provided with a professionally prepared, reasonable mixture of subjects ranging from soft HR topics to corporate finance analysis. A big plus was that our Lecturers were able to effectively communicate to us even the most complicated (financial :-)) knowledge. But MBA Poznan-Atlanta gave me also something more, what shouldn’t be underestimated – new, wide range of very interesting acquaintances and friends. Thanks to the way the studies were organized, I learned also how to effectively manage my time. This experience is one of the most relevant I’ve made and what is most important – that’s the skill I can right away implement in my business life. Last but not least – a crucial advantage of this program is that many subjects were lectured in English. Conclusions? Those were 2 years of hard work but it was really worth doing.

Barbara Tabaczyńska, V-ce Economic Director, Machura Bros Corporation

I am a graduate of the first edition of postgraduate studies – Master of Business Administration 1995-1997 at the University of Economics in Poznan organized in cooperation with Georgia State University in Atlanta.

For a person like me, with a non-economic education (MSc in pharmaceutics) the course was a perfect supplement of my knowledge and skills, opening new possibilities of holding managerial posts. The knowledge obtained during the studies as regards, among others, corporate finance, accountancy, strategic management and marketing, enabled me to look at a firm with a manager’s eyes not only with the eyes of a specialist in a given field. Particular attention should be paid to a high level of the lecturers both from the Pozna? University of Economics and from Atlanta. The MBA offers not only the knowledge but also gaining practical skills thanks to team work (joint projects) which makes it possible to exchange professional experience and make friendly contacts with people who may become our business partners in the future. I have particularly pleasant memories from summer workshops in Lubniewice – they are a perfect combination of learning and relaxation. Thanks to the course its participants feel the need to be active, to constantly improve and raise their qualifications. Therefore, I willingly participate in the open lectures organized for the MBA students and graduates. I have also become involved in setting up the MBA Poznan-Atlanta Association at the Poznan University of Economics in order to integrate the MBA graduates and symphatizers.
